The daughter of a Tennessee Hillbilly and Harvard PhD and his Palestinian wife from Nazareth. Deya’ spent her childhood in Lebanon and then moved with her father and sister to the UK where she completed her secondary education before attending Hampshire College in MA. Her father traveled extensively and home for the family included Beirut, Cairo, Peking, Paris, NY, DC and the London suburbs.
Deya’ studied dance and theatre from an early age and spent one year at the age of ten, at a school focused on the Arts. In college anthropology and linguistics were here focus and her hobby was theatre. She began modeling out of college taking mostly Runway assignments in the US and Europe, her clients included, Chanel, YSL, Emanuel Ungaro, Christian Lacroix, Calvin Klein. Her career expanded to include commercial print campaigns in Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Dazed and Confused, Time Magazine, British Postal Service and more. In time she began to work as a stylist for Ad campaigns and as a producer of Fashion Shows, Galas and Special Events, this work took her all over the globe and lasted over 30 years.
Widowed young, she remarried a few years ago and now lives with her Serbian husband in NJ. Between them they have three children and 2 grandchildren, she jokes that she is learning Serbian at the same level as they are learning English, and loves her husband’s country for its hospitable People, beauty and delicious foods.
Deya’ has served on the boards of educational charities, volunteers her talents as a gala producer for charities in the US and UK and worked with Inner City youth in Washington, DC and Annapolis, MD. She is a member of a few women’s organizations and a mentor for a new Big Sister Little Sister initiative in the Middle East.
Her professional life continued to evolve and these days she is fully immersed in a new passion. Deya’ Leonard Dresner (Mrs. Bardic) is the founder and executive director of the Leonard Education Organization (LE.O) A non-political non-religious initiative. This 501 (C3) non-government organization (NGO) is mission driven and dedicated to offering and supporting marginalized Palestinian refugee youth with an opportunity to study in the US at Liberal Arts colleges and universities. http://leonardeducation.org.
