Creative and Dreams Music Network and Fred Cannon are proud to welcome Barbara Giacometti to their family of talented entrepreneurs.
Barbara Giacometti is an Italian American and native New Yorker who has lived in the Southern United States for the last 25 years. A self-taught cook, Barbara loves sharing her lifelong passions for Italian food and cooking with her friends and family.
Her popular blog, Sunday at the Giacometti’s, came to life in 2011 simply through traditions. Growing up in New York, Sunday was the day when Barbara’s extended family came together to share and discuss family issues, while enjoying the company of her grandparents and the wonderful taste of her mother’s superb cooking. She said it was usually a loud day, always with the same menu – pasta con sugo and carne in humido (pasta with tomato sauce and meat cooked in that sauce). The Sunday family ritual became a long-standing tradition that continues to this day. Barbara added to the tradition by accident when her son was very young. After moving to Mississippi, she longed for a sense of home and a home-cooked meal – the type of meal reminiscent of her childhood days. Today Sunday and her blog of the same name have become a day of preparing menus, trying new recipes and sharing “old school traditional” meals and stories relating to life in general. Her goal is to show the home cook how to apply these traditions and classic cooking techniques to everyday cooking.
Her talents in the kitchen have turned into a career for Barbara, who was the winner of the Today Show’s Home Chef Challenge in December 2011. She was also a runner-up finalist at the Taste of Dallas Blue Ribbon Recipe Competition. Barbara taught a series of cooking classes, “A Culinary Ride Through Italy,” in spring 2012. She is working on her first cookbook of recipes and memories of Sunday lunch, and she is currently doing live cooking demonstrations and teaching private Italian cooking classes by appointment. Her blog was voted “One of the Top Italian Food Blogs to Watch in 2013,” by Italian Reflection online. It has also been featured in several local magazines including Invitation Tupelo, Invitation Oxford and Eat. Drink. Mississippi.
She and her husband, Alfredo, have one son, Maximillion.
